Takenoko – Bamboo shoots can be eaten, and when they grow large enough to become bamboo, the trunk can be cut and used as a vessel. Kaki – They either waited for them to ripen or dried them to enjoy the sweet persimmons. Uri – In the Heian period, melon-like cucumber was available and was eaten when fully ripe.
